Inspired by the Hopi people’s Katsina dolls, this “Crow Mother” is an piece that speaks to global degradation and human choices that perpetuate cycles of violence. While Hopi Katsinas are created from the root of a cotton wood tree this piece was created using a foam core base and sculpted in paper clay. Natural materials like leather, bone (Skull is a Tibetan prayer bead), turquoise (pendent), and feathers (found in my basement) were used in the crafting of this piece. “Crow Mother Speaks” has been exhibited at the Hive Gallery, LA and the historic 800 Traction building in the Arts District, Lil’ Tokyo, LA.
