Around the time the NODAPL (Dakota Access Pipeline) Uprisings began building momentum I was inspired to create a figure based on honoring the earth. This “Eagle Warrior” holds a turquoise stone representative of water and the Sacred Stone Camp in So. Dakota, the heart of the NODAPL revolution. It was also directly inspired by an ancient fresco painting of the Eagle Warrior of Tlaxcala, Mexico. Natural materials such as leather, feathers, found shells and copal incense were employed in its creation. Careful attention was given to his eagle helmet, face, hands, skirt and claws. As tedious as it was, I’d do it again.
